Series II: PAKISTAN (1953-54,1977)
From 1953-1954, Dr. Dumpson was a United Nations Advisor/Chief of Training in Social Welfare to the Government of Pakistan. In 1971 was a short-term consultant in Pakistan and in 1977 he had a fellowship to Pakistan through the United States Department of Health, Education, and Welfare.
Series III: WELFARE COMMISSIONER (1959-1964)
From 1974-1976, Dr. Dumpson was the Administrator of the New York City Human Resources Administration and the Commission of the Department of Social Services. This series is divided into 3 sub-series:

Series V: FORDHAM UNIVERSITY (1976-1990)
Dr. Dumpson began his association with Fordham in 1957 as a Visiting Associate Professor in the Graduate Institute for Mission Studies . Ten years later, he came back to Fordham (1967) as the Dean of the Graduate School of Social Work, with the faculty rank of professor. In 1974 he resigned to head the Human Resources Administration in NYC, where he stayed for two years. He has held adjunct professorships since 1975 and in 1982, , the adjunct professorship for the James R. Dumpson Chair in Child Welfare. This series is divided into three sub-series: 1: Course Related Materials; 2: the James R. Dumpson Chair in Child Welfare; and 3: the Thailand Project.
Sub-Series 1: Course Related Materials (1976-1984)
Sub –Series 2: James Russell Dumpson Chair in Child Welfare Studies (1980-1989)
The James R. Dumpson Chair in Child Welfare Studies in Fordham University’s
Graduate School of Social Service became a reality in December of 1980. Under the
auspices of the Dumpson Chair, in addition to bringing scholars to Fordham, a number
of programs have been sponsored, such as : the Institute for Quality Child Welfare
Services ; a study of the Black Family in the 80’s; and a Series of Interrogatives
Exploring Child Welfare Dilemma.
Sub-Series 3: Thailand Project (1979- 1986)
In academic year, 1982-1983, the Fordham University School of Social Services
offered a field course for graduate students at a refugee camp in Thailand. This project
was performed in conjunction with the Catholic Relief Services in Thailand. Dr. James
R. Dumpson was the Project Director from Fordham.
Series VI: HEALTH AND HOSPITAL CORPORATION [HHC] (1990-1992)
In 1990, Dr. Dumpson was appointed to serve as New York City’s Health Service Administrator and Chairman of the Health and Hospitals Corporation.
