1864 Catalogue
These pages taken from the St. Johns College Catalogue of 1863-64 list the
curriculum and shed some light on what life was like for the students at the
time. It states that the "Institution forms a large family", therefore
the system of government was "paternal", obtained "by means
of a firm, but mild authority". The students were NOT permitted to visit
"the city", and upon entering had to be provided by their parents
or guardians with "three suits for Summer and three for Winter; at least
six shirts, six pairs of woolen and six pairs of cotton socks, six pocket
handkerchiefs, six towels, four pairs of shoes or boots, one pair of overshoes,
a cloak or overcoat, and one pair of rubber boots or shoes."
