Description of Fields:

ID Number Fordham University call number, if available, plus further identifying information such as reel/fiche number. If the item lacks a FU call number, then identification is provided according to the collection it comes from, plus author or number (or sometimes both). Many of the entries in the database do not yet have call numbers, so this field should be updated once call numbers are assigned by Walsh Library.
Call Number Fordham University call number, if available.
FU Control Number Fordham University control number or MARC record number.
Title Title of work. Usually in original language (Latin, French, Italian, etc.), especially when the exact title is cited. Title translated to English when non-specific, such as "Classical writings" or "Epistles."
Call Num Add Copies Fordham call number of additional copies of same item.
Language Original language of item.
Country Country of origin of item.
Owner Owner/location of item.
Format Format of item: book, facsimile, microfilm, microfiche, manuscript, photocopy
Source Type Type of source: manuscript, guidebook, catalog, bio-bibliographical, historical.
Medieval Author Classical or medieval author of the work.
Script Script written in, if source type is manuscript
Held At If source type is manuscript, then holding library of original manuscript. If source type is catalog, then library which the catalog covers.
MS Number Shelfmark or number, if source type is manuscript.
Date Original date (usually a date span), if source type is manuscript. There may be some inconsistency in this field.
Contents Topical search words indicating contents of item, if source type is manuscript, bio-bibliographical, or historical. Field left empty if it would merely duplicate another field, thus the title and author are not repeated here. Try searching under a variety of different words, as this field lacks consistency and is not complete.
Incipit Incipit of manuscript. Field empty for most entries, although bibliographic references provided when available.
Provenance Provenance of manuscript. Field empty for most entries, although bibliographic references provided when available.
MS Condition Condition and Decoration of manuscript. Only filled in when manuscripts owned by Fordham. Bibliographic references provided for the manuscripts on microfilm when available.
Illuminations Illuminations on manuscript. Only filled in when manuscripts owned by Fordham. Bibliographic references provided for the manuscripts on microfilm when available.
Layout

Layout of manuscript (i.e. single or double columns). Only filled when manuscripts owned by Fordham.

Composite Box checked if manuscript is composite.
Folios Number of folios if manuscript. Field empty for many entries.
Frames Number of microfilm frames. Field empty for many entries.
Material Refers to material dimensions (number of volumes or reels, size, etc.) of actual object owned by Fordham, whether manuscript, film, fiche, facsimile, book, or photocopy.
Compiler Modern compiler, editor, or author. Primarily for catalogs and non-medieval works.
Bib Reference Bibliographic reference works to manuscript. These reference works are also entered separately in the database with full citation information.
Pub Place Publishing place. Not complete.
Publisher Publisher. Not complete.
Pub Date Publishing Date. Not complete.
Series Series of publication. Not complete.
Volume Info Information regarding works with multiple volumes. Primarily used for the Barberini Collection of catalogs, bio-bibliographical, and historical works once held in the Classics department.
Notes Any other additional information regarding entry, including additional works to see and further specifications on any aspect of item that did not fit or correspond to one of the other fields.
