Laptop Access
Laptop configuration for use inside the library with the available
data connections labeled "LAPTOP Data Jack".
PC LAPTOP
MAC LAPTOP WIRELESS
PC LAPTOP
- Ethernet PC Card (PCMCIA) - Network Interface Card - NIC with RJ45
jack installed in your laptop.
- Network cable with RJ45 connectors at both ends. (one end plugged
to your NIC card, the other end to the data jacks available through
the library).
- On your laptop in the "Control Panel",
"Network" must have the following
configuration: Under "Configuration"
tab you must have the NIC adapter that was installed and the TCP/IP
protocol.
- For how to install the NIC adapter check the User Manual of your laptop.
A correct installation should show the following in the "Properties"
of the adapter.
- The properties of the TCP/IP" should be:
- If you DO NOT have "TCP/IP" protocol under "Configuration" tab in
the "Network" of the "Control Panel", click the "Add" button and select
"Protocol" under "Select Network Protocol" holight "Microsoft" and "TCP'IP".
Click "OK" and follow the instructions on the screen. You will be asked
to restart the laptop.
- Once your setup is complete you can use the browser of your choice
to get to the Library Home Page or browse
the Internet.
MAC LAPTOP
- Intergrated Ethernet Network RJ45 jack.
- Network cable with RJ45 connectors at both ends. (one plugged to the
RJ45 jack on your laptop, the other to the dadt jacks available through
the Library).
- On your laptop under "Apple Menu", "Control Panel" and TCP/IP" you
must have: "Connect Via: Ethernet" and "Configure: Using DHCP Server".
- Once your setup is complete you can use the browser of your choice
to get to the Library Home Page or browse
the Internet.
WIRELESS
Wireless technology is now available in the Walsh and Quinn Libraries. You can attach a wireless card to your laptop or
Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) and connect to the Internet.
The Fordham wireless LAN service utilizes the 802.11B wireless LAN standard and can be accessed from any mobile computing
device equipped with a wireless LAN adapter that states its compliance with the WiFi Ethernet standard.
Use of the wireless network requires authentication using your Fordham University Lotus Notes username
and password. For more information on wireless access at Fordham University go
