Acknowledgements

Throughout the course of planning and preparing for this exhibition, numerous people were of great help.

James McCabe, Director of the Fordham University Libraries, provided truly generous support and access to all of the library's services from the moment of this exhibition's inception.

Patrice Kane, Head of Fordham University's Special Collections, patiently and ably handled the many requests which were made of her.

Carmen Bambach of the Metropolitan Museum of Art provided much needed information regarding display of the drawings.

Lynn Mervosh of the Wadsworth Atheneum, Suzanne Warner of the Yale University Art Gallery, and France Duhamel of the National Gallery of Canada quickly processed our requests for reproductions.

Kathryn Moore Heleniak, Associate Professor of Art History at Fordham University and a contributor to this catalogue, tirelessly commented upon drafts and offered her invaluable expertise.

Finally, I must thank the numerous people who have provided encouragement throughout the project: Richard Dillon, Matthew Favata, Mallick Fitzpatrick, Joel Herschman, Nicholas Lombardi, John Riley, Jane Mayo Roos, Evan Serton, Jack Spalding, and Richard Stapleford.I am particularly indebted to Irma B. Jaffe, Professor Emerita of Art History at Fordham University, whose lifetime of research, and guidance throughout the exhibition, made my role as curator a much more manageable task.
